OFYR – the art of stylish outdoor cooking
OFYR is the new way of outdoor cooking. This Dutch brand combines unique design with multifunctionality to create a versatile cooking appliance that guarantees beauty, warmth, delicious food and conviviality all year round. OFYR transforms outdoor cooking from an individual activity into a social activity, where friends and family gather around the fire to cook and enjoy themselves together. This happens not only in the summer, but throughout the year.
An OFYR fire bowl BBQ forms an atmospheric centrepiece for any gathering. The round design allows all guests to stand around the appliance and enjoy themselves, while the cook remains part of the group. This creates an interactive and convivial outdoor cooking experience.
OFYR was introduced in the Netherlands in 2015 and is now available in more than 80 countries. In recent years, it has grown into a complete outdoor cooking concept with a wide range of cooking appliances, matching furniture and high-quality accessories. At the heart of the concept is the iconic round fire bowl with plancha griddle, available in various sizes and finishes. Below, we discuss what makes OFYR so unique and provide an overview of the most important OFYR models and accessories.
What makes Ofyr unique?
Iconic design & conviviality: An OFYR is more than just a barbecue – it is a functional work of art that fits into any environment. The characteristic Corten steel cone with wide baking plate spreads heat in a radius of up to two metres, allowing people to gather comfortably around it. The open fire creates a warm, inviting atmosphere where cooking and socialising go hand in hand. Every time an OFYR is lit, it transforms an ordinary evening outdoors into a special experience.
Versatile cooking appliance: With an OFYR, you can grill, bake, roast, stir-fry and even make pizza – all on the same appliance. The ring-shaped baking plate (made of 12 mm thick carbon steel) offers different temperature zones from the edge to the fire, allowing you to prepare various dishes at the same time. From juicy steaks close to the fire to vegetables that cook slowly on the outside, and even pancakes or fried eggs. Thanks to its 3-in-1 design (plancha, barbecue and fire pit in one), the OFYR allows you to use cooking techniques that you could never achieve outdoors before. What’s more, after cooking, the appliance serves as an atmospheric fire pit for warmth and ambiance.
High-quality materials & durability: All OFYR cooking units are made from sturdy materials. The fire bowl and base of the Heritage Series are made from Corten steel, a type of steel that develops a stylish rust patina and is therefore protected against all weather conditions. The Heritage Series also includes OFYR appliances with a black coating. In addition, there is the Signature Series with versions in Chrome Green or Oxide Red coated steal for a sleeker, modern look and a version in Brushed Stainless Steel or Mirrored Stainless Steel for a contemporary look. Every OFYR is designed to remain outdoors all year round. The heavy carbon steel cooking plate retains heat excellently and does not deform, while the natural discolouration over time contributes to the rustic aesthetic. This high-quality construction ensures that an OFYR can withstand years of intensive use.
Ease of use & maintenance: An OFYR consists of only three main parts (1. base, 2. cone, 3. cooking plate) that are easily stacked on top of each other. There is no complicated assembly involved; the separate parts simply need to be stacked. Cooking on an OFYR is intuitive: use oven-dried wood as fuel, light the fire, and within ~30-40 minutes the plate will be hot enough for cooking. Maintenance is minimal – food scraps and excess oil can easily be pushed into the fire with a spatula, after which you can coat the plate with a layer of peanut oil. The flat baking plate is designed so that excess fat drains into the fire, making cleaning easier. Thanks to adjustable feet under the base, an OFYR is always stable, even on uneven ground. For those who want to make their OFYR even more mobile, there are also special PRO models with wheels and a handle, making the appliance easy to move around.
Which size OFYR should I choose?
OFYR offers a range of models in various sizes. First, you need to choose the right size!
Below is a list of the most important model variants:
- OFYR 100: this variant has a cooking plate with a diameter of 100 cm and is by far the most popular size. This is because you can cook entire menus for your family on an OFYR 100, but you also have enough space to cook with a group of family or friends and still find a cosy spot around the fire for 8 to 10 people. The capacity of the plate allows you to cook for up to 15 to 20 people.
- OFYR 85, with a baking plate diameter of 85 cm, is the smaller sibling of the popular 100. We recommend this size especially for outdoor cooks who don’t have quite enough space to accommodate the 100. Due to its smaller diameter, there is room for up to 6 people around the fire. The capacity of the plate allows you to cook for up to 10 to 12 people.
- OFYR 120, an extra-large cooking plate, not only because it has a diameter of 120 cm, but also because the opening in the middle remains the same size as in the 100 version. An OFYR 120 therefore provides a full 20 cm of extra capacity. This version is popular with those who often cook for larger groups and with professionals. There is room for 12 to 14 people around the fire. The capacity of the plate allows you to cook for up to 20 to 30 people, a full meal or 75 to 100 people snacks or small dishes.
- OFYR Trailer This model has a very large cooking plate with a diameter of 150 cm. This OFYR on a trailer is mainly used by professionals such as caterers or restaurants. It can seat 20 to 24 people around the fire. The capacity of the plate allows you to cook for up to 30 to 40 people, a full meal, or 150 to 170 people, snacks or small dishes.
- OFYR 75, with a cooking plate diameter of 75 cm, is the smallest OFYR model. We recommend this size especially for people or locations where space is very limited. Due to the smaller diameter, there is room for up to 4 people around the fire. The capacity of the plate allows you to cook for up to 4 to 6 people.
Conclusion:
For most people, the OFYR 100 is the ideal size for cooking for the family or for groups of family and friends, while there is a cosy spot around the fire for everyone!
OFYR Models Overview
OFYR Classic
The OFYR Classic is the basic model in its purest form. This model consists of a round fire bowl with a wide, flat baking tray on a conical base. The whole forms a beautiful object that looks great in any garden or terrace environment. Light a wood fire in the fire bowl and every barbecue evening becomes a special event. The Classic is available with a baking plate diameter of 75 cm, 85 cm or 100 cm, in your choice of Corten steel, with a heat-resistant matte black coating or, for the 100, also in Chrome Green, Oxide Red, Brushed Stainless Steel or Mirrored Stainless Steel finishes.
OFYR Classic Storage
The OFYR Classic Storage has the same style and simplicity as the Classic, but with the added convenience of integrated wood storage at the bottom of the pedestal. In this open space, you can stack your logs decoratively, so they are always within reach. The Classic Storage is available with a diameter of 85 cm or 100 cm. This model not only looks great on its own, but also combines beautifully with other OFYR products, such as the matching Butcher Blocks (worktops/cabinets) for a complete outdoor kitchen.
OFYR PRO models
For those who wish to move their OFYR more often or use it professionally, special PRO versions are available. The OFYR Classic PRO (without storage) and Classic Storage PRO (with storage) offer all the advantages of the standard models, but are equipped with a robust base with a teak push bar and sturdy wheels. This makes it easy to move the appliance, which is ideal in, for example, the catering industry, at events or for those who want to be able to cook in several places in their garden. The PRO series also has a slightly wider base for extra stability during use.
OFYR Island Pro
The OFYR Island Pro goes one step further and is functionally almost a complete outdoor kitchen in one unit. In addition to the 100 cm fire bowl, this version also has a generous wood storage compartment, a thick worktop and a handy holder for accessories and herbs integrated into the design. With an Island, you can chop vegetables or prepare dishes on the ceramic cutting board while the fire is burning. Everything you need – firewood, workspace and accessories – is within easy reach. This Pro version comes on wheels, making it easy to move around. Despite the extra functionality, the Island retains the characteristic OFYR design, giving it the stylish look of a single piece of designer furniture.

Frequently asked questions
What is an OFYR?
The OFYR is an outdoor cooking appliance consisting of a cone-shaped fire bowl on a pedestal. On top of the fire bowl is a 12 mm thick carbon steel baking tray that functions as a plancha. The design, by Hans Goossens, combines functionality with a sleek design and is intended as a weatherproof barbecue on which a variety of dishes can be cooked.
Which wood for the OFYR?
For the OFYR, it is best to use kiln-dried beech wood. This wood ensures a long burning time with stable heat output. Kiln-dried beech wood with a moisture content below 20% is recommended to limit smoke development. Preferably use wood without bark and avoid soft woods such as birch, as they burn too quickly. Pine wood is not suitable because it produces a lot of ash that ends up on the food. Use a Kindling Cracker to make the wood even finer so that you get even less smoke and can control/direct the fire better.
How to light the OFYR?
Stack the logs two by two, like a log cabin, with the bark side facing outwards to reduce smoke. Place firelighters in the centre under the wood pile and light them. When the logs are halfway burned, you can place them on one side under the baking tray to create different temperature zones. It takes about 30 to 45 minutes for the hob to reach full temperature.
How to use the OFYR?
After lighting and heating the plate, you can start cooking. Place the blocks under the plate to create a zone with maximum heat, the zones on either side provide medium-high temperatures and the zone opposite is the coldest zone, which you can use to keep food/sauces/vegetables warm. Vary the position of the blocks under your plate each time you use the appliance so that the plate is heated thoroughly all over and not always in the same place.
The OFYR is versatile and suitable for grilling, baking and many other cooking techniques. The temperature of the cooking plate also varies from the inside to the outside: the temperature is highest at the inner edge, up to 300°C, and decreases towards the outer edge. This allows you to cook different ingredients at the right temperature at the same time.
Which oil for the OFYR?
Vegetable oil with a high burning point, such as sunflower or peanut oil, is most suitable for cooking on the OFYR. For the first three times you cook on the appliance, it is recommended to use olive oil, as this gives the plate a beautiful dark patina. After use, it is best to spray the plate with Care Spray to provide an extra protective layer against rust.
Which vegetables on the OFYR?
Various vegetables can be prepared on the OFYR. Think of leeks, fennel, courgettes, asparagus, celeriac, baby potatoes, onions, cauliflower, carrots, peppers and much more… Stir-frying vegetables on the plate is a popular technique that gives them a delicious roasted flavour. This Hand-forged Wok Pan is perfect for preparing large wok dishes or vegetables on your OFYR!
How to clean the OFYR?
The OFYR is easy to clean. After cooking, while the plate is still warm, push food scraps and excess oil into the fire with the Pro Spatula. It is sturdier and sharper than regular BBQ spatulas and ideal for scraping all food scraps off the plate. Then coat the cooking plate with a thin layer of peanut oil to protect it from rust and prepare it for the next use. Use the Care Spray if you want to provide extra protection. The base and cone can be cleaned with a damp cloth and a mild detergent. The black appliances from the Heritage range can be protected by regularly spraying them with a layer of silicone spray.
