Monolith Grill

Monolith is a German premium kamado BBQ brand renowned for its innovative design, high-quality materials, and robust craftsmanship. Since its founding in 2008, Monolith has focused on top-tier quality, ease of use, and versatility in outdoor cooking. This kamado brand – created by barbecue enthusiasts for barbecue enthusiasts – combines traditional craftsmanship with German engineering to create the perfect grill. The result is a line of ceramic grills loved by both professional chefs and dedicated hobbyists for their power, precision, and thoughtful details. Whether you want to grill, smoke, bake, or slow-cook, Monolith can do it all.

Why Choose Monolith?

Monolith offers a complete outdoor cooking experience in a single device. Some unique features and advantages that set this brand apart:

Innovative Features:
Monolith integrates smart technologies such as the Smart Grid System (SGS) and a built-in wood chip feeder. The SGS consists of half-moon cooking grids at multiple levels, allowing you to work on up to 4 cooking tiers simultaneously and create different temperature zones. The integrated chip-feeder lets you add smoking wood without opening the lid. These features make Monolith one of the most versatile and innovative kamados on the market.

Culinary Versatility:
High-heat grilling, low & slow smoking, baking pizzas like a wood-fired oven, or stir-frying on a teppanyaki plate – it’s all possible with Monolith. With a wide temperature range of approximately 70°C to 380°C and excellent ceramic heat retention, virtually any cooking technique is achievable. From searing juicy steaks to slow-cooking pulled pork for hours, Monolith handles every cooking method with ease.

Accessories & Expandability:
Monolith offers a huge range of accessories, including pizza stones, woks, large plancha plates, rotisserie kits, and compatible half-moon cast-iron Dutch ovens. All Monolith grills of a certain size are compatible with the same accessories, so your investment in add-ons remains usable even if you upgrade later. These accessories (often included or available in sets) make Monolith a true all-rounder that can adapt to any culinary challenge.

German Engineering & Durability:
These kamados are built for a lifetime of barbecue enjoyment. Monolith uses premium silica-based ceramics reinforced with mullite, capable of withstanding extreme temperatures and fluctuations. All screws, bolts, and band assemblies are stainless steel to prevent rust and contribute to solid build quality. Monolith provides a lifetime warranty on the grill ceramic (including the firebox), reflecting confidence in its durability. Additionally, a unique stainless steel fiberglass sealing system and heavy stainless steel hinges ensure a long-lasting airtight seal and stability. This BBQ is a true lifetime investment.

Ease of Use & Control:
Monolith kamados are renowned for precise temperature control and user-friendliness. The design of the vents (top and bottom) allows for fine temperature adjustments that remain stable for hours, making low & slow cooking effortless. For added convenience, Monolith partners with BBQ Guru technology: some models feature a digital controller and fan that automatically regulate temperature (see Smart Flow). Monolith provides maximum control – perfect for those who want complete peace of mind during long cooking sessions.

Monolith therefore combines tradition and technology into a kamado that delivers unmatched results. It is no surprise that both Michelin-star chefs and passionate home cooks swear by Monolith’s quality and performance.

Overview of Monolith Kamado Models

Monolith offers various models and versions to suit every type of barbecue enthusiast – from balcony grillers to competition pitmasters. Here’s an overview of all Monolith models and their key features:

.55 (Classic)

The Monolith .55 (formerly Classic) is the most popular kamado size. With a cooking grid diameter of 44 cm, it offers the perfect balance between capacity and efficiency. Large enough to cook for the entire family yet compact enough for easy movement around the garden or terrace, the .55 is often called a complete outdoor cooking device. You can serve 4-6 people with diverse dishes simultaneously – roast a whole chicken indirectly on the top tier while grilling vegetables below – the .55 can handle it all.

Monolith ONE.55 – the All-Round Mid-Range:

The Monolith ONE includes several upgrades, such as the integrated Smart Grid System with half-moon heat deflectors, improved fiberglass sealing, and enhanced stainless steel hinges. This makes it easier to use and improves temperature control.

Despite its lower price, the ONE.55 offers many of the capabilities of top models while maintaining Monolith’s premium quality. It comes fully ready to use – just add charcoal and start cooking – ideal for BBQ enthusiasts seeking high quality on a budget.

Monolith TWO.55 – One Step Up:

The TWO series represents Monolith’s mid-range kamados, based on the proven Pro Series 2.0 concept with updates. The TWO.55 offers the same cooking surface as the ONE.55 but with additional design and usability enhancements. Notable at first glance is the new base: a sturdy powder-coated steel frame with a sleek matte finish, foldable bamboo side tables with tool hooks, and large, smoothly rolling wheels with brakes. It balances aesthetics and functionality.

In addition to core Monolith features (high-quality ceramic, stainless steel bands and hinges, exclusive SGS Smart Grid System), the TWO includes a convenient chip-feeder for adding smoking wood, improved fiberglass seals, and stainless steel plates integrated into the base for using the Monolith plancha without damaging the felt.

Monolith Avantgarde Classic Complete

Avantgarde.55

For the true connoisseurs among kamado enthusiasts, Monolith has developed the Avantgarde series. This line elevates the kamado concept to an even higher level in terms of design, finishing details, and innovations. “Design meets technology” perfectly sums up the Avantgarde.

What makes the Avantgarde different? Firstly, the appearance: the ceramic bowl is finished with a new satin-matte glaze that is not only extremely heat-, weather-, and acid-resistant but also looks stunning. The matte black combined with the gleaming stainless steel accents gives the grill an exclusive look. The frame has also been updated compared to the TWO series: the Avantgarde stand has been further optimized for maximum stability with additional storage space and forms a sleek frame around the kamado.

The real wow factor, however, lies in the details: the bamboo side tables and handle are made of heavy, carbonized bamboo, which is extremely durable. Two LED lights are integrated into the thick bamboo handle, perfectly illuminating the cooking grate. This allows you to clearly see what’s happening on the grill, even at dusk or in the evening. These kinds of clever details demonstrate Monolith’s commitment to perfection: from the precise fit of the lid seal (all ring and gasket seats are ground after baking for a perfect seal) to the virtually maintenance-free stainless steel fiberglass sealing system. The TWO series also comes fully equipped with holders for removing the grates and the SGS system, a scoop for easily removing the ashes from the bowl-shaped base, and two half-moon stainless steel drip pans. Finally, the Avantgarde naturally includes all the features of the TWO series (and more).

.66 (LeChef)

The .66 (formerly LeChef) is Monolith’s largest format, with a 52 cm cooking grid. Perfect for serving large groups or cooking complete menus at once, easily accommodating 8-10+ people and large cuts like a full brisket.

Monolith ONE.66 – The Big One:

Built like a tank, the ONE.66 weighs over 140 kg and has a nearly 1-meter-high ceramic shell. It maintains excellent heat retention and stability even in winter or stormy conditions. Favorites among competition BBQ teams and professional caterers, it includes all Monolith essentials like multi-level SGS grids and solid stainless steel hardware.

Monolith TWO.66 – Big Boy with Class:

The TWO.66 builds on the ONE.66 with the new powder-coated steel base, foldable bamboo side tables, large wheels with brakes, premium ceramic, RVS bands and hinges, maintenance-free fiberglass sealing, chip-feeder, and SGS system. Ideal for BBQ enthusiasts seeking top design, ultimate usability, and uncompromised performance.

Avantgarde.66 – The Flagship:

The Avantgarde.66 offers all the features of the Avantgarde.55 but on a larger scale, with satin-matte glaze, LED bamboo handle lighting, and maintenance-free fiberglass sealing. It exemplifies the perfect marriage of technology and aesthetics in a kamado.

Monolith Junior 2.0 – Mobile with Big Performance:

The Monolith Junior (Pro Series 2.0) combines portability with impressive performance. With a grilling surface of approximately 33 cm, the Junior is slightly larger than the Icon and comes with a matching cart, making it easy to move.

Enjoy the mobility of the Icon, but with the increased cooking capacity of a larger kamado. The Junior masters all cooking techniques—direct grilling, smoking, slow cooking, and baking—with flying colors. This model is perfect for smaller families, balconies, or to take along to the campsite or park, for example. Thanks to its thick ceramic wall, it retains heat exceptionally well, even during winter barbecues. And just like its larger siblings, the Junior comes with a wide range of original Monolith accessories, so despite its compact size, you’re not limited in your culinary creativity. In short, the Junior 2.0 is the ideal compact outdoor kitchen for those who frequently barbecue on the go without compromising on quality.

Monolith ICON – Compact All-Rounder for Table & Travel:

The Monolith ICON is the most portable model in the range: a compact tabletop kamado with a grate diameter of approximately 33 cm. Don’t let its size fool you – this little powerhouse delivers the full kamado experience on the table or on the go.

Developed in collaboration with Michelin-starred chef Tim MƤlzer, the ICON revolutionizes tabletop barbecues with its versatility and portability. You can grill, bake, smoke, and cook anywhere. Unique to the ICON is its easily removable lid, transforming the barbecue into a plancha or teppanyaki grill for live cooking at the table. Thanks to its robust construction and high-quality accessories, the Monolith ICON is the pinnacle of quality and style in a compact size. Ideal for balconies, camping, or as an extra grill at parties, the ICON brings big BBQ possibilities in a compact package.

Smart Grid System

Monolith interne opbouw

The Smart Grid System of Monolith offers a number of handy features for your barbecue experience. The system provides flexibility in preparing meals on multiple levels if needed.

This innovative system uses split barbecue areas at different heights, where the stainless steel barbecue grid can be used in two parts.

This also applies to the cast-iron grates, deflector stones, cast-iron planchas and stainless steel drip trays.

The 1/2 division of the drip trays and deflector stones even allows you to use a direct and an indirect zone in the barbecue at the same time, while significantly reducing the risk of fat burning.

The Smart Grid System also has two handy handles that allow you to easily remove the entire system from the kamado. The airtight design ensures constant temperatures in the Monolith.

Frequently asked questions

What Makes a Monolith Kamado Unique Compared to Other Brands?

The most unique aspect of Monolith is the combination of German engineering with smart, innovative features. Two key distinguishing characteristics are:

  • The Chip Feeder System:
This is a small sliding flap that allows you to add wood chips directly onto the burning charcoal without opening the kamado lid. This prevents heat loss and keeps the temperature perfectly stable, which is ideal for smoking and low & slow cooking.
  • The Smart Grid System (SGS):
Unlike a standard grill grate, the SGS consists of a metal frame where multiple half-moon grates, drip trays, and heat deflectors can be placed on different levels. This gives you the flexibility to create direct and indirect cooking zones simultaneously and cook on up to 4 levels at once.

Additionally, Monolith is known for its robust construction using high-quality stainless steel, a unique and durable fiberglass sealing system, and the option to integrate a BBQ Guru controller (Smart Flow) for fully automated temperature control.

Which Monolith Model Is Best for Beginners or a Small Family?

For beginners or smaller families, we recommend a Monolith in the .55 size (44 cm cooking grid). This size provides enough space to prepare a full meal – meat, vegetables, and a side like potatoes or sauce – for a family of 2–4 at once. There is also room to cook larger amounts if you’re hosting a party.

Choosing between a ONE, TWO, or Avantgarde model depends on the level of comfort and convenience you desire. Keep in mind that most of our customers use these grills very frequently, year-round, multiple times per week, and Monolith comes with a lifetime warranty. Take your time to make an informed decision, and don’t hesitate to contact us with questions – we’re happy to share our years of experience!

What’s the Difference Between the Monolith TWO Series and the Avantgarde Series?

Both series are available in .55 (44 cm) and .66 (52 cm) sizes and share the same high-quality ceramic construction and cooking systems. The difference lies in the finish, design, and luxury details:

TWO Series:

  • Modern upgrade of the base models

  • Convenient chip-feeder and tools such as ash scoop and grate lifters

  • Improved, stable, and functional powder-coated steel base

  • Foldable bamboo side tables with tool hooks and large, smoothly rolling wheels

Avantgarde Series:
The Avantgarde is Monolith’s top-tier series, incorporating all TWO series improvements and adding extra luxury. Key differences:

  • Exclusive satin-matte glaze finish

  • Reinforced base with storage plate for heat deflectors and BBQ tools

  • Heavier, durable, carbonized bamboo for handles and side tables

  • SGS system enhanced with 2 stainless steel half-moon drip trays that can click together to form a single large tray

  • Most striking feature: integrated LED lighting in the handle to illuminate the grill surface perfectly in the dark

In short: the TWO series improves functionality and design, while the Avantgarde adds a layer of pure luxury and high-tech convenience.

Can I Do Low & Slow Barbecuing on a Monolith, Like Making Pulled Pork?

Absolutely. Monolith kamados are perfectly suited for low & slow cooking. The thick, heat-retaining ceramic and precise airflow control via vents allow you to set and maintain a stable low temperature (e.g., 107–120°C) for hours. Adding extra smoking wood through the chip-feeder without opening the lid is extremely convenient during long cooking sessions.

For ultimate ease, a Monolith can even be equipped with the Smart Flow system (BBQ Guru), which fully automates temperature control, making long, overnight cooks effortless and worry-free.
